Pacman’s 30th Anniversary – Pacman Google Doodle Is Playable!

May 21, 2010, By Intermaggio

If you’re Google addicts like us, you’ve surely noticed that the search giant’s homepage has been transformed into a doodle of Pacman today. The Google doodle commemorates the 30th anniversary of the iconic video game by showing us a Pacman level laid-out in the shape of the word “Google”.

There’s more to the doodle though- it’s actually possible to play Pacman, right within the doodle!

Pacman represents one of the most popular video games of all time, and had a huge impact on the culture of the ’80s. According to Google, Pacman marked “a significant moment in popular culture”, and they’re proud to share the nostalgia with the world.

Google was mindful of preserving what gave Pacman its style, and commented:

“From preserving the distinct personalities of the ghosts Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde, to re-creating programming bugs from the original game, like a ‘kill screen’ on level 256, Marcin Wichary, a senior user experience designer at Google, and our resident Google doodler, Ryan Germick, remained as faithful to the spirit of Pac-Man as possible”

They really outdid themselves this time.

To play Google Pacman, simply go to, and wait. After just a few seconds, the game should start, and your little Pacman can eat away!

Google says that this doodle will stay on their homepage for 48 hours- that’s longer than the average doodle, so make use of that time and enjoy it while it lasts!

Update: Anyone notice the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button is missing? In it’s stead is an “Insert Coin” button!
