How to View Saved Credit Cards on Mac

This guide will discuss how to view saved credit cards on Mac. For optimal credit card security, it’s important to know where your credit cards are stored and how to find out which cards are stored and which are not.

On Mac, your credit card information is usually stored in Safari. If you have enabled iCloud Keychain, this will allow you to use that saved credit card information on other devices as well, such as your iPhone, even if you initially saved it on a Mac.

iCloud keychain is a cross-device password manager by Apple. In that way, it differs from the macOS keychain, which only stores information related to passwords on the local Mac device. In this article, we will be focusing not only on iCloud Keychain but other ways your credit card information might be saved on your Mac.

For example, if you use Chrome, your credit cards might be saved in Google Chrome, which has no association with iCloud Keychain but instead syncs your credit card details across devices where you are using Chrome.

Viewing Saved Credit Cards in Google Chrome

You can see your saved credit cards in your browser settings on Google Chrome.

Google Chrome provides autofill features for passwords, addresses, phone numbers, and credit cards. If you decide to save a card, it will be saved for future checkouts. You will still need to enter your three-digit CVV code each time for security purposes; that code is never saved.

So, how can you manage credit cards and payment methods on Google Chrome?

Click on the three dots in the upper-right corner of your screen. Then, hover your mouse over Passwords and Autofill, and then click on Payment Methods. See an example in the following screenshot.

There, you will see your saved credit cards. It will only show the last four digits and the expiration date while hiding the rest of your card details for security purposes, as well as the nickname or bank name of the card.

If you want to remove a card, click on the arrow button next to the card. You will be taken to your Google Pay account (you may be asked to log in again), which is where the cards are stored for use across your devices and Google apps. You can then click on the Remove button to remove the card.

Updating Credit Cards in the App Store

In the Mac App Store, you can view your saved payment information, update credit cards associated with your Apple account, and update your other billing information.

These saved payment details are for paying for items with your Apple account, such as when purchasing apps or making in-app purchases. Payment details saved in Chrome or Safari are different and are instead used to pay on third-party websites.

To find your stored payment methods on the App Store, open the App Store and click on your name in the bottom left. Then, click on Account Settings towards the top of the screen.

The second line from the top will be titled Payments, and you will have a “Manage Payments” link highlighted in blue. You can click on it to see your saved credit cards (or other saved payment details, like PayPal). You can then add or delete payment methods.

Finding Saved Credit Cards on a Computer (General)

Finding saved credit cards on a computer will depend on which operating system and browser you are using. For example, you might have cards saved in Chrome and other passwords saved in Safari. If you are using ChromeOS, you might even have saved payment details in your Google Play credit card settings.

It’s important to think about all the possible places your cards might be saved. Think about the browsers you use and the app stores specific to your device. Those are the best starting points, as they are usually where cards are stored.

Finding Saved Cards on Mac Chrome

To find saved cards on Chrome on Mac, or to manage credit cards, head to Payment Methods in your Passwords and Autofill settings. You can edit credit cards or delete credit cards by clicking on the arrow next to any card that appears there, which will take you to that card’s settings in Google Pay.

Changing Credit Card Details on a Macbook

To change payment details or update billing information related to your Apple ID for transactions on the Mac App Store on a Macbook, follow these steps:

  1. Open the App Store
  2. Click on your name at the bottom left.
  3. Click on Account Settings at the top.
  4. Click on Manage Payments.

Locating Credit Card Information on Safari

To see saved credit cards or change credit card details on Safari on Mac, open the Safari app.

Then, click on Autofill. Finally, click on Edit next to Credit Cards. See an example of how to do this in the screenshot below.

You can then add and delete credit cards.

On Safari on an iPhone, you can also use the camera capture feature to automatically fill in your credit card details when making purchases on some websites.

Editing Saved Credit Cards on a Computer

To edit credit cards, add credit cards, or delete credit cards on Chrome, regardless of which computer you are using, you can head to your Payment Methods settings under Passwords and Autofill. There, you will be able to manage your payment details.

Removing a Credit Card From a Macbook

The steps to remove credit cards on a Macbook will depend on where you have it stored. If you want to remove it from the Macbook itself, this will be in Safari. You can head to your Autofill settings and click on Edit next to Credit Cards to delete a payment method.

Note that this will not delete a payment from your Apple Wallet & Apple Pay, for example, which allows you to pay from your phone using Touch ID. It also won’t delete a payment method from the App Store or Google Chrome, as you must delete them separately.

Troubleshooting Credit Card Autofill Issues

Let’s conclude with some solutions to common autofill problems.

If your credit card is not auto-filling, head to your browser settings and ensure the card is saved with the correct details. If your card expired, update any outdated information. Clearing the cache might also help.

If you are using virtual cards (available from some banks), they might not work at all times. Switch to the real versions of those cards.

Conclusion

The ability to save credit cards in your browser is a great financial management tool. It’s convenient and allows you to save time when making purchases online. However, it’s important to ensure responsible use and follow payment security best practices, such as using secure passwords for your Macbook and Google Pay account.
