If you don’t have your TV remote, there are other ways you can turn on the TV.
If you lost your TV’s remote, don’t panic! You can still turn on the TV using the front power key. But what if you can’t find the front power key? Some TVs may not have a front power key, but there are still ways to turn on the TV, even without a remote.
Confirm Power and Perform a Soft Reset
The first thing to check is that your TV is connected to a working power source. Confirm that the house has electricity and that the power socket is working by plugging out the TV and then plugging in something else, such as your phone, to charge.
If the socket works, plug the TV back in. Unplugging and re-plugging the TV can also perform a soft reset and fix minor issues.
Locate Alternate On-Set Controls

Most TVs will have a power key somewhere. It will usually be marked with a power icon.
Even if the TV does not have a front power button, it will have a power button somewhere, such as on the back panel, the sides, the top, or the bottom of the TV. Feel around the sides, bottom, top, and back until you find the power button.
Move your fingers slowly, as the button may be very small and easy to miss. Sometimes, it’s not even a raised button, but a small circular key that you can tap or press.
If you have access to the owner’s manual, check the manual for an illustration showing where the power button is.
Control Over the Network With the Official Mobile App
If you have a smart TV, you may be able to use your phone to control the TV. Brands such as LG and Samsung have their own apps that allow you to control your TV by using your phone as a remote.
Even if you lost the physical remote, you would be able to use your phone. However, this would only work if you already linked your TV to your phone via the app. If the TV is not turned on, you can’t do link it now.
Enable Hands-Free Power With a Smart Assistant

You may be able to use a Google Nest or another smart assistant to turn on your TV.
Another thing you can do is use your smart assistant device, such as Google Nest, to turn on your TV. This works if you have a TV with Google TV or Android TV, and it is already added to Google Home.
To do that, you would make sure your TV and phone are on the same Wi-Fi network and signed in with the same Google account. Then, go to the Google Home app, click the + button, and select “Google Nest or partner device.” It would then search for devices and find the TV.
Once it’s added to your account, you can turn it on by issuing voice commands to your Google Assistant (like your Google Nest), such as “Hey Google, turn on my TV.”
If the TV isn’t turned on, though, and you have not yet added it to your Google Home account, this isn’t very useful, as your phone probably won’t pick it up when searching for nearby devices.
Use HDMI-CEC to Wake From a Connected Device

If HDMI-CEC is enabled on your TV, you can wake it up by connecting it to another device that has HDMI-CEC enabled via an HDMI cable.
If you have HDMI-CEC enabled on your TV, you may be able to use an external device to wake it.
CEC stands for Consumer Electronics Control, and it’s an HDMI feature that allows you to control multiple connected HDMI devices from one remote.
When two devices that have HDMI-CEC enabled are connected, their power control is intertwined. When you awaken the other device, it attempts to awaken the TV and become its current active source.
If your TV is not turning on, this will only work if you already have HDMI-CEC enabled on it. To do that, you would have to navigate to your TV’s settings and enable HDMI-CEC, which is usually under the options for managing external devices. On some TVs, it may be called something else; for example, it’s called SIMPLINK on LG TVs.
You would need to also enable HDMI-CEC on the other device, such as your Xbox, and then connect it to your TV via HDMI. By turning on your Xbox, you can also turn on your TV.
Keep a Universal Remote as a Reliable Fallback
I recommend keeping a universal remote as a backup in case you lose your main OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) remote.
Universal remotes are available on Amazon for less than $10. Just search for “universal remote.” Remotes may be either infrared, RF (radio frequency), or both.
Make sure to pair it with your TV as soon as you get it. If the TV is turned off and can’t turn on, you may not be able to pair it. Keep it somewhere safe as a backup in case you lose your regular remote.
Conclusion
I hope this guide was helpful! If you didn’t already pair your TV with a smartphone app, Google Home, or a universal remote, your best option is to use the physical power key. If there isn’t one on the front, you should be able to find it on the back, bottom, top, or sides.
