Cyber Monday 2013 Shopping Seen as Breaking Records

November 27, 2013, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Shopping maniacs are gearing up  for Cyber Monday, which falls one week from today.

The news is certainly big and bright for the online retailers. Forrester, a market research company, says that a record $78.7 billion will be churned out  by the online market this time around.

The above figure is almost 15 percent more than last year’s.

It is estimated that 167 million shoppers will rely on the online retail websites to get presents, gadgets, and gifts.

Everyone will spend about $472 each during the season . In 2012, the sales stood at $68.4 billion, while in 2011 it was $59.5 billion.

Sucharita Mulpuru, who works with Forrester, writes that the weakening of economic growth and employment rates show a healthy market for online holiday business.

She also adds that these possible buys will break out of any side effects of the government shutdown. This is even more visible in online markets, according to Forrester.

The $ 78.7 billion figure that Forrester gave out also includes all of major online shopping days, like Thanksgiving, Black Friday, CyberMonday and the like along with those orders customers place through their phones.

Forrester says that 57 million people in the U.S. do their shopping through their phones. Also, it can be expected that there will be a wide range of offers and discounts as retailers compete to win customers.

The chances of these sites giving discounts to buyers, who shop from their website more than once, are also high.

Other than Forrester, Adobe Digital Index also predicted that 2013 will be the highest-ever online spending season.

They have also said that Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday will all churn out billions during the season. Cyber Monday alone is predicted to bring about sales amounting to $2.27 billion.
