Toshiba Upgraded Canvio Hard Drives Launched; Offer 1.5 TB and Mac Compatibility

Toshiba has announced the launch of the upgraded versions of its Canvio external hard drives with massive storage capacity and added usability. The drives will now offer a maximum storage capacity of 1.5 TB and compatibility between different platforms.

The portable hard drive duo from Toshiba, Canvio 3.0 and Canvio Basics 3.0, offer more advantages to users who go for frequent data transfers across PC and Mac machines. Usually, it is a sticky job since hard drives that are compatible with Mac should have NTFS compatibility, which is not the case with PC-compatible drives.

To overcome this issue, Toshiba has included an NTFS driver in these drives. So, unlike other external hard drives, the newly launched Canvio drives need not be reformatted to connect to a Mac. The additional Mac compatibility will be a boon for users who work across platforms.

The drives also offer higher data transfer speeds, thanks to the USB 3.0 ports they sport. These new hard drives also bring along software that can carry out full system backup and recovery. The easy scheduling feature allows users to pre-set their back-up sessions and offer the usability to run both full system back up and file or folder back up simultaneously.

To save your data from accidental fall, these rigs pack internal shock sensor and ramp loading technology. And if you need some space on the cloud, you can just try the 30-day free trial of the cloud-enabled back up that comes with the drives.

Hard drives in the Canvio 3.0 line-up will come under $120-$200 price range, with the 1.5 TB storage with NTFS driver at the top end. Prices for Canvio Basics 3.0 range from $110 to $190. Both start shipping in early June.
