We know that Apple’s iPad is the most popular in the tablet category. What we did not know yet was that 11 percent of the American adult population owns a tablet.

A study conducted by Pew Research Center in cooperation with The Economist Group found this, and a bit more interesting figures about the tablet users in the country.

The study reveals that tablets are not bought by adults just to own one; an impressive 77 percent of those adults that own a tablet use them every day.

General web surfing was performed by 66 percent of the users.

The average tablet user spends 90 minutes each day using the tablet for different purposes. Of all sorts of things, email use is one of the most popular tablet activities with 54 percent of the tablet owners using it for email.

After email, 39 percent of the tablet owners use it for Social Networking.

Also, 17 percent of the users watch movies on their tablets, and 77 percent of the tablet owners consume news from their tablets, at least once a week, making it the most common activity in a tablet.

But a majority of the tablet owners do not pay for content on their tablets, and only 14 percent have purchased any content.
