Wi-Fi Issues With Dell Venue Pro Confirmed; Dell Says It’s Not Hardware

November 11, 2010, By Alex Ion

Dell have confirmed the pesky Wi-Fi connectivity issues on their new Dell Venue Pro. According to the company, those of you who bought a Windows Phone 7 handset on either Monday or Tuesday, that would be November 8 or 9, may experience problems when trying to connect to secured Wi-Fi networks.

“Customers who purchased Venue Pro smartphones on Monday or Tuesday (November 8 or 9) at a Microsoft Store and who are experiencing the protected WiFi network connectivity issue also have the option of bringing your phone back to the Microsoft Store for an exchange, beginning at the end of next week.”

It’s always nice to hear that a company acknowledges their faults and makes it right that fast, but this time we’re a bit curious what may have cause the issue as their official comment says “the issue affected some of our initial phone shipments and was not a hardware issue or a Windows Phone 7 one.” So, if I’m reading it right, that’s not a hardware issue, but also not a software issue.

How come folks?

For those of you who don’t remember it, the new Dell Venue Pro comes with a  4.1-inch WVGA AMOLED capacitive multi-touch display (with Gorilla Glass for durability and scratch resistance), has a QWERTY landscape sliding keyboard, runs on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and features a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash. Among other specs, there’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Have any of you guys encountered issues with WiFi on the Venue Pro? Our guess is “not many”, eh?

There’s a saying, bad advertising is still advertising. Good one Dell!
