Facebook Rumored to Have Roped in INQ Mobile and AT&T for Two Smartphones

September 23, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Earlier, we had reported about the possibility of a Facebook phone. After the rumors started to build up, Facebook had denied having plans to build a smartphone. Now, fresh rumors are suggesting that Facebook is working with cellphone maker INQ Mobile.

Reuters has reported about Bloomberg’s revelation that Facebook is working with INQ Mobile to create two smartphones and that the social networking website is also planning for a network tie up with AT&T.

It was also said that the devices would be coming with Facebook’s services and are all set to be unveiled in Europe in the first half of 2011 and the US in the second half of 2011.

It is being reported that AT&T, the No.2 US mobile provider, has not made a deal but is deciding whether it should be the network carrier for the Facebook phone. When asked about the matter, Facebook declined to comment on plans for specific phones but said that it is still working with INQ Mobile (the cellphone maker has previously sold phones with Facebook features).

We might hear a lot more details on this story in the near future. So stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
