HP webOS tablet tipped for Q1 2011

August 10, 2010, By Thomas Antony

This was more or less expected or at least hoped for when HP acquired Palm back in April. According to the guys at Engadget, HP is bringing out a webOS tablet sometime in Q1 2011. The news comes from an internal source who informed that the Personal System Group VP at HP, Todd Bradley, mentioned the probably release date to employees during an all hands meeting yesterday.

The new tablet project is codenamed “Hurricane”, which kinda confirms what we learned through leaks back in May about the so called HP Hurricane tablet. There was some speculation initially whether HP would abandon webOS entirely. They were however, quick to reassure that webOS would be coming to all sorts of gadgets. HP certainly seems to be taking their time to make something that would hopefully turn out to be something awesome.

This comes after the recent announcement that the Windows 7-based HP Slate would be targeted at enterprise customers rather than “normal” consumers. There is also the upcoming Android Zeen e-reader to wait for.
While the demo pics certainly look enticing, we will have to wait and see to know whether the hardware holds its own against the software.
