Mozilla has finally unleashed the mobile version of its much popular Firefox web browser. Firefox Mobile 1.1 is now officially available for Nokia’s Maemo mobile OS. The new browser runs on the same browser engine as Firefox 3.6 desktop browser and will also in addition, allow users to save pages as PDF for viewing offline.

The new Firefox Mobile 1.1 for Nokia N900 and N810 already brings in some support for the upcoming HTML5 standard, but many other design factors are still to come. For example, you can zoom into a page using double tap, but pinch-to-zoom or multitouch is not yet available even though the N900 has native support for the same. Firefox Mobile also includes the Awesome Bar, addons, one-touch bookmarking and many other such features familiar to users of the desktop Firefox. With FireFox Sync, you can even synchronize it perfectly with your desktop browser, including open tabs.

Mozilla has confirmed plans to port the browser to other mobile platforms including Android and Symbian. But there are no plans for Windows Mobile as of now, until Microsoft officially transitions to Windows Phone 7.
