Best known for directing the Evil Dead series, Drag Me To Hell as well as the blockbuster Spiderman, Sam Raimi has signed to direct the World of Warcraft Movie adaptation, Variety reports.

First time we heard of a Warcraft movie was in 2006 when Blizzard signed a deal with Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures to get the battle between the horde and the alliance to the big screen. But just now things have gotten serious with Sam and The Dark Knight producer Charles Roven on board.

And if we’re to consider that all first three Spiderman series in the top-20 top grossing films of all time, the World of Warcraft movie is slated for a huge success when released in 2011 (just after Spiderman 4 is finished).

“At its core, ‘Warcraft’ is a fantastic, action-packed story,” Raimi said in a statement.

The real-time strategy game which has been first introduced in 1994 as Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, will probably have a built-in audience considering that there are more than 11.5 million monthly subscribers today — all loooking for a very interactive and detailed world that takes cue from “Lord of the Rings”, except for thescholarly tone.

Do you think a “World of Warcraft” movie is a good choice and is Sam Raimi the right guy to direct it?
