Sprint Executive, Thomas Murphy, Killed by a Boulder

thomas-murphy-sprintVice president of corporate brand marketing for Sprint Nextel Corp, Thomas Murphy, 45, was driving with his family near Aspen in Snowmass Canyon on Colorado 82 just west of Milepost 28, when the windshield of their 2007 Chevy Tahoe was hit by a falling boulder the size of a briefcase that killed him.

The accident happened on Friday at about 4:40 p.m, and as Pitkin County sheriff’s office announced, the rock knocked him unconscious, while his 11-year old son has suffered moderate injuries.

More to it, because the car was on a steep downhill trajectory, Murphy’s wife had the tough choice of steering from the front passenger seat and bring it to a stop. It took her more than a mile to do so.
