New MacBook Pro Versions Likely to Use Intel’s New i5 and i7 Processors

Intel have announced their intentions to expand their line of Arrandale processors with three new additions, and the release date has been stated to be January 3rd. The processors will use the high-end Nehalem architecture, which is already being used in some of Mac’s desktop computers, released earlier this year. The new processors, titled the Core i5 and Core i7, are reported to have a significant performance gain over the Core 2 Duo, which is currently used in the MacBook Pro.

Apple upgrades iMac line up; adds MacMini and Magic Mouse to the range

Apple has ushered in new upgrades to its iMac computers. Powered by Intel Core 2 Duo processors, the two new models unveiled by Apple, however, fall short of expectations as the company seems to have given Blu-ray disc drives the miss. Many Apple enthusiasts had expected the upgrades to come with this feature.

Of the two new models, one boasts of a 27-inch LED back-lit screen and a 1-terabyte drive, while the other comes with a 21.5-inch LED back-lit screen and a 500 GB drive. Apple has attached a $1,699 tag on the iMac with the 27-inch screen, and $1,199 on the 21.5-inch screen version.

All New 17-inch MacBook Pro – World’s Thinnest and Lightest 17-inch Laptop

Word was that Apple was working to refine the 17-inch MacBook Pro. And they did. During the MacWorld Keynote speech, they announced the world’s thinnest and lightest 17-inch laptop in the world, that should be packing a ultra-thin, widescreen glossy 1920 x 1200 display, runs on a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 6MB L2 cache, has 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 memory and allows users to switch between the integrated Nvidia GeForce 9400M and the GeForce 9600M GT that has 512MB or RAM.

Other than the goodies above, for $2,799 it also includes a 320GB 5,400 rpm hard drive (320GB 7200 rpm hard drive and 128GB and 256GB solid state drives as options), three USB 2.0 ports, a slot-loading SuperDrive, a FireWire 800 port, an ExpressCard/34 expansion card slot and a much much better battery (95WHr lithium polymer battery) that is expected to “deliver up to eight hours of use on a full charge cycle and up to 1,000 recharges”.

And just in case you were wondering, there are options for a 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor or for the 8GB 1066 MHz DDR 3 memory. All you need is money.
