When Apple launched their lawsuit against HTC earlier, most saw this as surprising and unexpected, as Apple didn’t seem to have given any clear indication of what they’re about to do. On the other hand, Yair Reiner from Oppenheimer has a different opinion on the matter, and thinks that the lawsuit was actually to be expected.

With all the recent talk about the lawsuit launched by Apple against HTC over patent infringements, it was curious to see when Google would finally actually react – after all, the whole ordeal seems to revolve around the operating system on HTC’s device, the Android.

Apple seem to have gone on quite the crusade there. It’s only been a few months after they attacked Nokia with lawsuits over 13 of their phone patents, and now they’re at it again, this time getting ready to sue HTC for the very same reasons.

Kodak recently sued Samsung and it appears that they just can’t get enough legal battles on their hands. Right now, Kodak’s attorneys are launching three separate lawsuits against Apple and RIM. Two of those cases seem to replicate the Samsung one almost perfectly, with the first one being an International Trade Commission complaint.

Nokia got engaged in a legal battle with Apple over patent and standards issues recently, and it appears they won’t spare any resources to try and win it – while also pushing the charges against Apple to a very high level. The last lawsuit filed by Nokia concerned GSM standards, and now they’ve launched another one, this time about “implementation patents” – which cover a wide range of technology used in Apple’s devices, including touchscreen and camera sensors.

Must say, it has been a day for some strange kind of legal ‘injunctions’ with RealDVD being held first with a preliminary injunction and now Microsoft being held from selling its very own Word with a permanent injunction. The decision passed by Judge Leonard Davis, of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas prohibits Microsoft from selling or importing any Microsoft Product to the United Sates.

The legal duel which has been on between Microsoft and i4i since the latter filed the lawsuit in March 2007 (for injunction and damages) couldn’t have found a better location than the Eastern District of Texas-a famous shelter for patent litigation.

RealNetworks’ RealDVD is a software that every technology aficionado acknowledges owing to its capability of ripping DVD movies into a computer just as you can rip those CDs. The Software has been marred with a controversy that has now seen a United States District Court passing an injunction order-meaning that the sales of the software have been put on an immediate hold, ‘until’ a decision is made.

Legal restrictions should favor the consumers, but in this case the injunction order passed by Judge Marilyn Patel does exactly the opposite.
