It is strange to realize that the Amazon Kindle app has finally arrived for the Mac, for there is absolutely no fanfare whatsoever despite the desperately awaited nature of the app. Sadly, the application does not please the Tiger and PowerPC users, and it caters to Intel Macs running Mac OS X 10.5 and higher operating systems for Macintosh computers.

The 22MB application which is up for free downloading reports a version number of 1.0.0 beta 1 and it has been expected since the last six months when even the iPad arrival was a mystery.

Amazon and Macmillan have finally called off their pricing dispute after days of wrangling over pricing of books. With the new settlement, books by Macmillan authors are queuing up to be back on sale on Amazon’s Web site. The agreement on a new model is what Amazon has resorted to and this could be seen as Amazon’s climb down, acknowledging the arrival of a rival in the form of the Apple iPad, which could have been a threat to its Kindle franchise and domination of e-books.

Users of Amazon’s Kindle DX have expressed some disappointment with the lakc of global wireless capabilities in the device – unlike the 6″ version of the device, which has full global roaming support. However, an interesting link showed up on Amazon recently – in the top-right corner, there’s a text that says “Kindle DX Now with Global Wireless”.

Anyone who needs to buy content for their Kindle instantly heads to Amazon – this is currently the norm. It’s only normal that the creators of the device would want to control its market, too – but it seems that some strong competition is on the rise and may soon change that. Scribd, as some of you may remember, was originally created for people to share documents.

The Nook, Barnes & Noble’s long awaited e-book reader, will soon be released to the public. It was supposed to be released right after New Year, but the huge demand caused B&N to delay the release with one week in order to produce enough to satisfy the public. The reader will be delivered to those who pre-ordered before November 20th somewhere around Christmas.

Kindle doesn’t seem to be kindling any hope for Amazon. The European release came about as expected but then, who is the telecom player that will get it going still remains an unanswered question. The Kindle e-book has not been able to find a telco who would be its supplier.
That in fact is the Amazon version of the story. What we understand is that Amazon has not yet even tried to talk to any of the European telecom companies as to who will have the e-book contract. The UK’s mobile phone companies feel irked that they haven’t have still been contacted.
