Seagate are working on an ultra-thin hard drive meant to be used in small netbooks. The disk drive is only seven millimeters thin, and it’s part of Seagate’s Momentus Thin line of hard drives, which should be lined at CES in January. This advancement is quite remarkable, considering the current 2.5″ disks don’t go below 9.5″.

They feature 16MB of cache and 5400 rpm spindle speed with transfer rates of upto 830 Mb/s on a SATAII interface.

The So SuperSpeed Hard Drives (HDDs), which have been much anticipated from the house of Dane-Elec, will hit the US mart on December 11, 2009. The new series of USB 3.0 external drives will come loaded with storage options ranging from 500 GB to 2 TB. The series will also include the world’s first USB 3.0 Solid State Drive (SSD), which would have the capability of true data transfer speeds of up to 250MB per second.

The data transfer speeds of up to 250MBps would, in fact, be close to 10 times the rate available in current USB 2.0 devices. To be available in 2.5 or 3.5-inches formats for laptops and desktop computers, the new series of external drives will support the upcoming USB 3.0 standard, Dane-Elec said.

Anyone remembers how a hard drive looked tens of years ago? Well things advanced and they became smaller and smaller when it comes to size, and larger and larger when it comes to capacities. Then we got the portable or the external hard drives and things changed radically. Here’s Toshiba’s newest USB 2.0 portable hard drive that comes with nothing less than 400GB for you to store your files on.

It’s a 6-ounce drive that measures 0.65- x 3.19- x 5.0-inches and is available in Electric Blue and Black, Carbon Grey, Hot Rod Red and Gecko Green. Compatible with Windows XP/Vista or Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later the new USB2.0 portable external drive from Toshiba should ship from October. We don’t have a price yet.
