
Sony Ericsson had revealed their upcoming “miniature” android smartphones, the XPERIA X10 mini and X10 mini pro about a month ago at the MWC 2010. SE recently revealed the pricing for the two handsets in Europe and even though both come with relatively small 2.55-inch displays, they are to cost €300 or more.

Android 2.1 “Eclair” for the Motorola DROID was supposed to be on the verge of release a couple of days ago and some were even saying it was supposed to be out today. But, as it turns out, after all that anticipation, the latest leak from Verizon says the OTA firmware update has been delayed. A page from Verizon’s internal systems reads like this : “The OTA software update for the DROID by Motorola is TBD. A new date will be communicated as soon as possible”.
To match the might of the Apple Store is a dream and the closest a contender can ever get is what Android has started achieving in these recent months. As per a recent revelation by some Google employee, Google Android market may have somewhere between 30,000 to 35,000 applications. The number takes into account both paid and free applications although the exact division is not available.

Just for comparison sakes, the Apple Store passed a whopping 150,000 apps. last month where 25% of the apps are free while the rest of them are paid.


Everyone who has an HTC Hero and has been itching to “officially” get the latest Android flavor on their phones, can breathe a bit easier now as leaked documents from HTC say that they will start pushing out the Android 2.1 updates by April 2nd. Earlier announcements from HTC at the MWC 2010 had placed the release date in February or March, which seems to have been postponed now. Now, starting on April 2nd, HTC will start pushing out the new version of Android to the unlocked versions of HTC Hero and later on to the carrier-specific versions.
While the smartphone war in the UK is led by Vodafone and O2, it looks like Virgin Media would like a ticket in as they have just confirmed availability for one of the most sought-after Android 2.1 devices these days, the new HTC Desire — being the sixth operator in the UK to offer it.

Vodafone announced today that the HTC Legend will be available in the UK exclusive to their network. The aluminium-finish successor to the HTC Hero will release along with HTC’s rehash of the Nexus One, the HTC Desire come this April. The two devices will be accompanied by Sony Ericcson’s X10 and the Nexus One. But a launch date for the Vodafone N1 is unknown as of now.
