Just a quick update for those who can’t wait to get their pre-order in for Apple’s iPad. While we knew for sure that it’s going to happen today March 12th, we couldn’t tell exactly when they’ll put the pre-orders page up. According to a company’s spokesman talking to TUAW, “customers can pre-order online at apple.com at 5:30am Pacific time on Friday, March 12″. That’s 8:30 in the morning for those on the East Coast.

OpenGL may be getting relatively ignored by the commercial gaming industry, but that’s because of Microsoft’s aggressive DirectX campaign. The developers of the open-source library sure aren’t giving up though, as they’ve just announced a new version of the interface, which is supposed to compete with DX11.

If you would remember, Dell had rolled out its Vostro series of notebooks and had pocketed fair amount of success some time back. The company has added to the collection with a new series under the 3000 series. Offering a choice of different processors, the new series come with the promise of bringing to us a new notebook experience. The Dell Vostro 3000 series comes in different configurations and are packaged in a wide range of sizes. The notebooks are currently available for you to taste in the US, while those of you who are somewhere in Europe will have to wait till the month-end.

According to Intel, there’s been at least one fake version of a Core i7-920 CPU which has managed to find a way onto the US market. The company is now launching an investigation aimed at finding out how many more counterfeit chips there are on the market.

The new range of notebooks from the house of Samsung has made it to BestBuy. The new notebooks, namely R480, R580 and R780 are the ones you can now pick up on BestBuy. Significant, in the meantime, is the fact that the R780 is being only offered on Bestbuy.com, making it an exclusive for the online store. All three notebooks will be available starting on March 7.

Targeting the professionals on the move, HP has brought to the fore its new 12.1-inch EliteBook convertible tablet. The device satisfies all demands of professional use by incorporating a touch interface that will also work with pen that is included. The EliteBook 2740p tablet PC, as well as a non-tablet device called the EliteBook 2540p, offered by HP and are expected to start arriving in the US market next month.

Shuttle’s new small form factor PC, named the XS35, will soon be seen at the CeBIT platform which gets underway next month. The small form factor (SFF) PC maker has this time designed a 3.3cm thick device that is HD compatible. Apt for use in homes or small offices, the XS35 is likely to be available during the second quarter of 2010.
