Sony PlayStation Vita Production to End Next Year

September 21, 2018, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

In case you missed it, Sony had announced in May this year that it would pull down the shutters on production of physical games for its pocket handheld Sony Vita games console. Now, the company has followed this announcement with yet another. The company has said that it will put an end to production of the PS Vita hardware. This is expected to happen next year.

It was in December 2011 that Sony had unveiled its PlayStation Vita handheld console. The console travelled across the globe during February 2012, much to the wide welcome of enthusiast from all over.

The announcement, however, doesn’t make the console disappearing from showcases, as buyers are still keen on owning the PlayStation Vita.

The decision to put an end to its production seems to have been triggered by the fact that a year since the unveiling the sales of the hardware as well as big budget games had reached a trough. As we all know, the  PlayStation Vita design was thoughtfully done to incorporate the experience of big budget, dedicated video game platforms with the then up-and-coming trend of mobile gaming through smart phones and tablets.

Sony’s love for dedicated handheld gaming is on the wane, and this could be the reason for the move to end output.
