New Leak of Pixel 3 XL Reveals the Notch; Likely to Shun RAM Upgrade

August 13, 2018, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

With Samsung having announced the Galaxy Note 9, all eyes now fall upon Google and Pixel. Google and Apple remain the major names yet to unveil their 2018 flagships, and as per the usual schedule, Google will be the first among the two to toss its Pixel successor to the public.

Various rumours have already tipped about the Pixel 3, but a new leak now shows the closest we have witnessed yet. Additionally, we are also getting to know about what it could pack inside, and the combination of the design and specification might not appear pleasing to at least some of the Pixel lovers.

First is the design, and it’s all but true that Pixel will finally embrace the notch this year. The initial signal was provided when Android Pie rolled out with an official support for launch. The latest video too depicts the cut-out on the top, but what might upset the users is the fact that it accompanies with a broader chin on the bottom.

With the inclusion of the notch, Google Pixel 3 XL will have its display real estate upped from 6.4 inches to 6.7 inches. What needs to be seen is whether the Pixel 3 XL would retain the dimensions of its predecessor, given the extra screen size and the retention of the broader chin.

The leak also throws light over the specs, and it’s quite as expected. Both the Pixel 3 devices are said to house the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, but surprisingly, there won’t be an increase of RAM. The devices are said to yet again feature 4 GB RAM, which sadly is just half of what some of the modern flagships offer. There could be a step-back apparently with the battery too, with Pixel 3 XL tipped to pack 3430 mAh battery, down from the 3520 mAh battery used in Pixel 2 XL.

The triple-camera setup rumoured as per the benchmark is though absent from the rear-face of the device. So like every other leak, it’s not safe to fully count on this one. We would get to know more in the coming days, as Google is expected to reveal its Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones in a day not far from now.
