Camera Module Leak Hints at Quad-Cam Presence in Sony Xperia XZ3

Sony’s flagship series update, the Xperia XZ3, is expected to hit the stores in around two months from now. There are no official words from the company regarding the premium flagship, but leaks have already started appearing giving us the initial hints about what Sony could pack inside the XZ3.

One major update is surrounding the camera. One of the reliable leaks comes from Sumahoinfo, whose track record is somewhat good when it comes to leaks from Sony. Accordingly, the Xperia XZ3 will have a set of four cameras in total. As you can expect, this will be in the form of two dual-cam setups, each on the front and rear side of the device.

Sumahoinfo has also revealed an image revealing the set of camera modules that could possibly be used in the device. The rear-module appears to be the same that was featured in the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium smartphone. If so, the Xperia X3 will have a dual-cam setup of 19MP and 12MP sensors on the rear face.

As with the front-cam, there are scarcely any insights available. So far, Sony has stuck with single cameras for all its premium smartphones. So we would have to wait to see how Sony will have the step-up implemented. Also, there is no detail regarding as of what purpose the secondary camera in each module would be serving. Even if the sensors remain unchanged, Sony could tweak the purpose of the secondary sensor like OnePlus did with its OnePlus 6 flagship.

The news would still have to be taken with a pinch of salt, as Sony is among the late entrants to embrace the dual-cam technology. But that’s still a possibility, given the recent developments happening around Sony devices including a departure from the conventional designs.

We could know more about in the coming month, as Sony will have a press conference at IFA 2018 on August 30, where the Xperia XZ3 is tipped to be unveiled.
