With privacy concerns at their peak in the internet world, social media platforms have been pushing hard to keep users stuck to them. But alongside, they have also been endeavoring to offer the security users have been longing for.

But none of those have kept users from floating away from the social media platforms. And it was on this backdrop that Instagram assured to roll out a data download tool for all those users who felt insecure in the photo hosting platform, complying to the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) privacy rules in Europe. The service is now finally available on Instagram, and users can access it to get their data shifted to a new platform.

The feature is available on the web version and users can access the feature by hitting the gear icon next to the Edit Profile option. Users will find a Privacy and Security option from which they can scroll down to the newly available Data Download option. Once you hit the Request Download option, you will be prompted to type in the email address and password. Instagram will have all your files including photos, videos and Stories sent across to you via a link, which can be used to download them.

The service won’t hand you an instant result, as Instagram says that it can take up to 48 hours to receive the mail. At present, the feature is available only for the web version, but it will soon be made available on the mobile version as well.
