LG G7 ThinQ will be the First Smartphone to Have Dedicated Google Assistant Button

Google Assistant is about to have a dedicated button the same way Bixby had in the Galaxy devices. According to newly emerged reports, the upcoming LG G7 ThinQ will be the first device to sport a dedicated button for the digital assistant.

The Google Assistant button on the G7 ThinQ will be seated on the left side of the phone, with the power button shifted to the right edge. Google has constantly been trying to push its digital assistant aggressively. But the current move comes as a result of the keenness of LG to make its flagship standout with a focus on artificial intelligence.

It’s not the first time that Google Assistant is having a physical connection to the device. Pixel 2 devices had the option of squeezing to get the assistant invoked. But certainly, a dedicated button is a first, following the path set by Samsung. The latter’s button although wasn’t well received among the users. But Bixby wasn’t at a developed stage, and it neither is now.

That’s not the case with Google Assistant, which has found place in the core apps of Android. This very reach could make the button more useful than the Bixby button. However, users will not be able to customize the button to make it a shortcut button for their preferred app. This could irk some users, but with Google Assistant’s expansion, we wouldn’t call the space usage an unworthy move.

More details about the button will be available in a few days, as LG will unveil the G7 ThinQ flagship on May 2nd at an event in New York.
