Huawei P20 Triple-Lens Camera System to Deliver 3X Zoom Effect

March 22, 2018, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

It’s no big secret that Huawei is set to unleash a triple-lens camera with the Pro version of its upcoming flagship, the Huawei P20. With that being a first in the industry, Huawei is also apparently making sure that the triple-lens doesn’t just turn out to be a gimmick.

We are now having further insight of the triple-lens system that will be used in the device, thanks to the tips from WinFuture. The source claims that Huawei P20 will have a triple-camera system with a combination of 40 MP, 20 MP, and 8 MP sensors. That’s pretty impressive, and the pixel count of that top sensor stands second only to the PureView cameras from Nokia. But what take the system far above the PureView are the accompanying sensors.

Apart from the massive 40MP sensor, which would presumably sit on top of the array, Huawei will have the 20 MP sensor and 8 MP sensor vertically arranged below. The 20 MP sensor will be a black-and-white sensor that will aid the bigger sensor by improving the details, while the 8MP telephoto sensor will work similar to themodern-day dual-cam sensors. The effect will be of 3X optical zoom results according to the sources.

Besides, the P20 Pro will also reportedly feature slo-mo video capture of up to 960 frames per second. The numbers are similar to what we have seen in the Samsung Galaxy S9 device, but it needs to be seen whether Huawei too will let users capture those ultra slow motion frames in pieces.

Accompanying the main camera would be a secondary camera of 24MP for the selfie shoots. The device will also have other flagship hardware packed inside, all of which will be revealed officially on March 27th. Huawei will also launch the regular P20 and P20 Lite version launched alongside the same day, both of which will feature dual-cam setup on the rear face.
