Remote Wireless Charging Soon to Be a Reality, thanks to New Technology

December 28, 2017, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

We have heard a lot about true wireless charging that lets you charge device without any physical contact unlike in the case of the existent technology. Many concepts have been talked about regarding the same, most of which have though failed to conceptualize.

However, some of them have succeeded with the trial runs, and among those technology seems to be approaching the horizon. Energous, a San Jose-based startup, is the one that has given us the hope regarding true remote wireless charging technology with its new power-at-a-distance wireless charging.

What gives us hope is the fact that the technology has now been certified b Federal Communications Commission, signaling that it’s only a few steps away from hitting the markets. Called WattUp Mid Field transmitter, this device works on the very principle of converting electricity into radio frequencies.

Once converted, these are then beamed as energy to nearby devices that would be outfitted with a receiver. Currently, most of the wireless charging devices makes use of resonant induction method that provides lesser range in comparison.

WattUp can also charge multiple devices at the same time. Additionally, they can also charge up any device, whether it be smartphone, tablet, laptops or headphones. Besides, it will also work on any device regardless of the manufacturer of the device which you want to charge.

As of now, there aren’t any specific dates available for the release. As per the hints, the company is expecting to debut the device in the coming CES 2018 event that will be taking place between January 9th and 12th in Las Vegas. So there’s shouldn’t be much waiting for us to get our devices charged without hitching it to another device.
