Facebook’s Events App Gets Rebranded as Local; Adds New Features

November 14, 2017, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Events, the standalone app from Facebook that connected users with live events around, is getting uplifted. The app now comes with additional features apart from just event info, including reviews and local business info.

With the upgrade, Facebook has also rebranded the app as Locals to get its name synced with the new additions. Apart from events, Locals will now also feature businesses, restaurants, bars and more places and their details.

The feature will debut in US on both iOS and Android devices. According to the official description, the new app will let access a single search engine to get connected with events and places around them, helping them easily find what to do or where to go. The app will also bring together calendar and event listings, taking it closer to the likes of apps like Foursquare. Calendars can be manually imported, so that everything remains under one hood within the app.

Users can access recent activities, events and places their friends are interacting with from event hosts and Pages they follow. Alongside, an interactive map will be presented to surf through the events, which can be filtered by time and category apart from location. Users can also push for notifications about upcoming events.

In other news, Facebook has also recently merged the Messenger Day service with Facebook Stories to eliminate the standalone Snapchat clone feature from Messenger. Stories will be present now both on Facebook and Messenger, with which users can post the stories through either and make them available for their entire contacts.
