Facebook Cherishing GIF Popularity with New In-App GIF Creation Tool

July 18, 2017, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

It’s an open truth that GIFs are much adored on the internet. Its popularity has forced many leading social platforms including Facebook and WhatsApp to incorporate the support for GIFs into them. But Facebook now believes that just a mere inspiration isn’t satisfying the users.

As a result, the company is planning to roll out new GIF creation tools that will let users create their own GIFs than the ones available in third party libraries. Facebook’s GIF creation tool is similar to the service offered by some third-party apps, which lets users create GIFs using their smartphone cameras.

The experimental service is now live on iOS and a few users have already been selected automatically to test of the app. You can check your eligibility by simply tapping the in-app camera of Facebook on an iOS device. If selected, you would see a new GIF title along with Normal.

Tapping on the GIF would obviously create looping animated images which you can share through the social platform. Users will also be able to add several photo effects and frames that have been introduced by Facebook dedicatedly for the new GIF creation tool. Apart from sharing it through Story or timeline, users can also decide to save the GIFs to their device so as to use it anywhere else.

There is no word on when the GIF creation tool will be made available to the entire public. At present, there’s also no info about an Android version of the tool. Much of its occurrence will depend on the outcome of the testing, which we believe will be receiving a huge embrace from the tested users.
