OnePlus Confirms Name and Release Date of Its Next Flagship

It’s not that we didn’t know about what will be up from OnePlus this summer, but at least it stays official now. The Chinese manufacturers have now confirmed its plans for this summer with the revelation of its upcoming flagship, and those well fall in line with what was said earlier.

With a first teaser of its upcoming flagship, which reads Hello 5, OnePlus has now confirmed that its new flagship device will be called OnePlus 5. Previous rumors have suggested the name, with OnePlus already having launched the fourth in their flagship series bearing the name OnePlus 3T.

However, that apparently is not the prime reason for why the device will skip the number four. Intead, it’s tied to their homeland culture with the number four being considered unlucky in China due to its association with death.

Along with that, OnePlus has also teased the launch date with its tagline that reads ‘Hey Summer! Give me five!’ That doesn’t reflect the exact date of launch for OnePlus 5, but we can expect that to shape up by the end of June, or probably in June going by the timeline of its previous launches.

Details about the inner hardware of the device still remain concealed. But quite naturally, it should feature the SD 835 SoC from Qualcomm that had appeared in a few devices prior to OnePlus 5. However, it would be interesting to see how OnePlus tweaks the inner array to get more out of the flagship. Despite the previous Snapdragon 820 chipset being used in numerous flagships, it was the OnePlus 3T that raked the top rank in almost all the performance charts.

There should also be an upgrade in display with OnePlus 5 expected to be the company’s first QHD device. An earlier leak of the device has also suggested a dual-cam setup for its rear side. Those would still remain as rumors until this summer during when we will be having the full and final glimpse of the device officially.
