WhatsApp last month ditched its older status feature by replacing it with a new Status feature which was more of a Snapchat clone. But it appears like users weren’t that pleased after finding the absence of the text status feature.
Following wide backlash, the company has now revealed that the older status service will be given a resurrection. The status feature was initially the solo feature available in the present-day social messenger app back when it debuted in 2009.
Text statuses have also made its re-appearance in the new beta version of WhatsApp for Android devices. However, there is a slight variation in its appearance compared to its previous form.
The new statuses will retain the same features of letting users update text statuses including pre-available ones. But that won’t be made viewable in the contact section, which was also replaced with the addition of Status tab. Instead, the status will now appear in the ‘About’ section of profiles.
That would mean that users will have to dig more inside WhatsApp to check the status update of their friends and family. It’s not sure whether WhatsApp will show the statuses along with contact list that can be accessed through the new contacts button. Users can also update the status by entering their ‘About’ section of their profile
WhatsApp has also confirmed that the text status feature will be rolled out to the main app by next week for Android devices. That will be followed by its expansion to iOS devices. WhatsApp’s new statuses will stay in the same form as it is now.
