Samsung Galaxy S8 Leak Reveals All New On-Screen Home Button

March 9, 2017, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Thanks to a set of leaks from popular tipsters that Samsung Galaxy S8 looks have already been out. But that hasn’t stopped the entry of new leaks, which comes with further revelations about the upcoming flagship from Samsung.

A series of new leaks have now been revealed by Slash Leaks which shows off the new device engulfed in a casing from almost all angles. That pretty much reveals the final shape of the device, but what’s further intriguing is the ‘Always On’ OLED display that comes in Samsung’s Infinity Display screen.

Interestingly, the Always On display in the Galaxy S8 features a square button in the bottom side, and it will be Samsung’s replacement for the physical home button which it has sacrificed for the edge-to-edge display.

While having on-screen buttons is nothing new, making the home button Always On makes more sense, especially for accessing shortcuts without having to wake the screen. Previously, Samsung and LG, both of whom floated Always On display, made use of the feature only to display time along with specific notifications like those for missed call counters and messages.

Samsung’s Always On button has been made possible with the use of OLED panels, which possess the ability to turn off pixels individually, thereby consuming minimum power for lighting up only those required for Always On.

Apart from that, the new leaked image also confirms the presence of other features like USB-C, headphone jack, the SIM/ micro-SD slot on top, and an IR blaster, which would be a first in Samsung flagship. Galaxy S8 will be unveiled by Samsung at a Samsung Unboxed event on March 29.
