LG’s X Power Series Returns with Beefy Battery

March 2, 2017, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

We have often witnessed manufacturers coming up with smartphones that barely gets a successor to its name. LG’s X Power smartphone was believed to be falling under that category when it was launched last year. But LG has shattered those believes by revealing the refreshed second generation in their X Power series ahead of WC 2017.

Like its predecessor, the X Power 2 is the mid-range smartphone that targets the section of battery-savvy users. While LG packed a 4100mAh battery in the original device, its successor now comes with improved battery. LG X Power 2 features a massive 4500 mAh battery that will keep your device running for over 15.

With a massive battery backing the device, LG says that the X Power can play videos continuously for up to 15 hours. It can also stay alive continuously with GPS usage for over 14 hours or with web surfing for over 18 hours. Along with that, LG has also added high-speed charging technology that can shoot up the charge by half in around one hour, which is not bad considering the massive capacity.

Outside, the X Power 2 has made a small jump in the screen size by housing a 5.5-inch 720p display. LG has stressed that its X Power 2 is all about power, which means that inside hardware has been kept refrained of any big updates. The processor used is an unnamed 1.5 GHz octa-core chip, and it’s widely believed to be from MediaTek.  X Power 2 will have two RAM variants- 2 GB and 1.5 GB, and they will be rolled out based on the market.

A 13 MP sensor is used for the rear-cam setup, while the front-cam will be housing a 5MP sensor. The predecessor had better pixel counts with the front-cam, but we can expect to see better image outputs in the successor, including wide-angle capture with the front-cam. The device will also have the latest Android Nougat OS running inside when it get launched in markets.

The LG X Power 2 will be releasing initially in the Latin American markets.  Pricing of the smartphone is yet to be announced. We can expect more details to be revealed in the coming days.
