TAG Heuer’s Connected Successor Reported to be Modular

February 23, 2017, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Smartphone companies are still experimenting with the modular concept, which hasn’t yet achieved its completion in smartphones. But here’s a watch company that is now eyeing to tweak with the concept on smartwatches.

TAG Heuer, who has previously launched its Connected smartwatches, hasn’t kept mum on a successor for the same. But what appears surprising is the company’s effort to take its successor to a new level. If everything goes according to plan, then we might just see a smartwatch that can be customized module-wise.

The Connected Modular will be a ‘fully customizable’ watch according to the reports, which means that we will finally have a smartwatch with which we could not just swap the straps, but also its timepiece. Users will be able to ditch the ‘smartwatch’ trait be swapping the digital timepiece for a mechanical one from the company, thanks to the head module that will be incorporated by the device.

TAG Heuer has previously reported that its Connected successor will be launched by May 2017. But reports also suggest that the company is ahead of its timeline with the successor, as Connected Modular is now reported to get launched on March 14.

Another guarantee is that the new smartwatch will be packing the all new Android 2.0 smartwatch OS that recently made its debut with the LG smartwaches. Android 2.0 comes with its own peculiarities, and the modular addition could be the perfect icing on top of the cake. We will have to wait to see if we will have more modular additions brought in apart from the digital-mechanical swap.
