The much anticipated sequel to the Redmi Note 3, one of Xiaomi’s hot-selling phones, has now been unwrapped by the Chinese manufacturer. Contrary to expectations, Xiaomi has kept Redmi Note 4 pretty close to its predecessor with how its built.

Featuring a 5.5-inch display, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 comes with a Full HD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. Like it has been with Redmi Note 3, Xiaomi hasn’t revealed the protection offered over the 2.5D curved glass. Inside the device is a deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 SoC coupled with Mali-T880 MP4 GPU, which remains the biggest change compared to the previous version. The processor will have two Cortex A72 cores running at 2.1GHz, for Cortex A53 cores at 1.8GHz, and another four Cortex A53 clocked at 1.4GHz.

Paired with the new processor is a RAM of 3GB and in-built storage of 64GB. This is for the top variant that’s priced at $180 (1,199 Chinese Yuan). Similar to Redmi Note 3, the Redmi Note 4 will feature a smaller variant with 2GB RAM and 16GB in-built storage for $135 (899 Chinese Yuan).

Another noticeable change in Redmi Note 4 is the rear camera, which is now powered by a 13MP f/2.0 sensor, which is accompanied by a 5MP front cam. The massive battery capacity of the series has been kept intact, as Redmi Note 4 features 4100mAh battery inside. Redmi Note 4 will also have Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS running beneath the MIUI 8 UI.

As with the design, Redmi Note 4 packs a metallic unibody design that adds a more premium feel. The fingerprint sensors are placed beneath the rear cam. The biggest tweak is with the speakers, which is now placed on either sides of the micro USB slot. This seems a better work, considering that the previous edition had its speaker on the rear face of the device, to the bottom of the camera and fingerprint sensors.

Xiaomi will be starting the sale of Redmi Note 4 in China on August 26. It is likely to be followed by the entry of Redmi Note 4 on other favorable markets of Xiaomi.
