Google is Shutting Down ‘Together’ Watch Face for Android Wear

August 9, 2016, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Google’s Together Watch face won’t be going together with Android Wear devices by next month. The company has announced that the Together Watch Face for Android Wear, Google’s take on Apple Watch’s Digital Touch, will be shut down by September 30.

The announcement has been made indirectly within the app, and users notice the info message when attempting to configure Together in their Android Wear devices. However, Google is also planning to fetch many of the Together features to the upcoming Android Wear 2.0 update, which will be arriving during fall this year.

Together was launched nearly a year ago by Google to let two Android Wear devices pair up using a special watchface. This allowed sharing of messages, emoji, location, photos, doodles and other stuffs between the devices without having to open any app.

Besides having the feature integrated in Android 2.0, Google also adds that users can communicate with other Android Wear users via its new feature called Smart Reply through multiple messaging services.

The loss here will be for the first-gen Android Wear smartwatch owners, as Google has mentioned that the Android Wear 2.0 update won’t be arriving on those devices.

Together will be taken off from all Android Wear versions on September 30, but Google still hasn’t give out info on when the Android Wear update will be arriving. Google has said that the update will be arriving on fall, but there hasn’t been any specific info, and it seems like there will be a waiting period for Android users before they could try the integrated Together features in Android Wear 2.0.
