It was a long wait for smartphone users to get their hands on the official Reddit app. The wait came to an end recently, after Reddit finally rolled out the official app following months of beta. And it now appears that the app has become an instant favorite at the app stores.

According to data from Sensor Tower, Reddit has now instantly grown up to clinch the top spot in US app stores, leaving behind all other leading apps like Facebook, Snapchat and Twitter down the order.

Reddit has been long in the works for an official app, and it started back in 2014 after their acquisition of the Alien Blue app. The latter remained the top app for the iOS users as a third-party client for Reddit users. However, the stats do show that it’s not just the Alien Blue porters that are making Reddit an instant hit.

According to the stats, Alien Blue never made it into the top-ten list of top App Store apps. The highest position it has managed to climb was up to 18, which it hit during October 2014. This indicates that there is a flow of new users to try out the app too.

Despite having good signs in the App Store, the official app of Reddit is still deemed by some, and has managed to gross only a positive rating of under 50%.

However, it do presents one of the easiest ways to access Reddit through the smartphones, and puts forward many features like instant drop-ins of links and media, speed read button to quickly navigate through long sessions etc. There will be many more features as Reddit has vowed to provide constant updates to the app.

The app is available for Android devices also.
