Outlook Adds Third-Party Calendar Integration for Smartphones

April 9, 2016, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

A new service introduced by Microsoft will now make the Outlook app for smartphones even more enjoyable. From now on, Outlook users will be able to integrate calendar events from new third-party apps.

This will include the syncing of reminders and events from Wunderlist, Evernote and Facebook. All these now come in addition to the integration of calendar events from Google Calendar, iCloud and Exchange.

Users can catch the integration by swiping the screen to the right when inside the calendar tab, following which they can add the calendar integration of the given apps. The respective display of events from Wunderlist and Evernote will also present a link to quickly tap-in to the reminder or note that has been saved in the aforementioned services. Various sub-menu options are also made available, which can be turned off and on according to user’s wish.

Similarly, users can also tap the Facebook-integrated events to check out the details of an event like schedule and venue. The responses to a particular event will also be displayed alongside. The Facebook integration will also have the birthday dates of your friends in Facebook imported to your Outlook calendar.

The current additions have taken place apparently after the acquisition of Sunrise Calendar by Microsoft last year. However, Outlook is still missing out various integrations which were present in Sunrise like Asana, Todoist, Trello, Basecamp etc.

But it might appear in the future updates, as Microsoft has been asking users about the third-party integrations which they would like to have in the coming updates. The current integrations are made available both on iOS and Android devices.
