Xiaomi Mi5 to Sport Physical Home Button, Suggests New Leak

December 10, 2015, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Just a day after we had the render leaks of Samsung’s Galaxy S7, the geeky spies out there have hovered their telescopes over another flagship, and this time from that of Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi.

An image of the upcoming Mi5 were let out by website GizmoChina, and it’s not just 3D renders, but what they claim to be the real image of the upcoming flagship.

From the image, it appears that Xiaomi has not yet come out of its love for Apple designs.

Xiaomi appears to have taken inspiration yet again from iPhone for the design of Mi 5. But it looks impressive with the slim form factor, with less protruding power and volume buttons.

And guess what, they are also having a physical home button. That would make it Xiaomi’s first ever first flagship that comes ditching the capacitive home button.

The website didn’t offer any sneak peek into the spec details, but a piece of it came out from Pan Jiutang, the reputed Chinese analyst. According to Pan, Xiaomi Mi5 won’t feature the UltraSonic Fingerprint Scanner technology from Qualcomm, despite the handset sporting the latest Snapdragon 820 chipset that supports this next-gen technology.

This pretty much sums up that Mi 5 will stick to the traditional fingerprint scanner, which recently was unveiled with the Redmi Note 3. This, along with the 3D-Touch-alike technology, forms the most anticipated external hardware addition in Xiaomi’s flagship smartphone.

The device is tipped to get launched at an event on January 21, following which it will make its way into the markets on February. Mi 5 is expected to be priced in between CNY 1,999 (USD 310) and CNY 2,499 (USD 390).
