Redmi Note 3 Unveiled; First Xiaomi Device with Fingerprint Sensor

Xiaomi has pulled the wraps off its first ever all-metallic devices. At an event held at the National Convention Center in Beijing on Tuesday, Xiaomi has unveiled its long rumored Redmi Note 3, as well as the successor to its Mi Pad tablet.

The Redmi Note 3, previously rumored as Redmi Note 2 Pro, also now makes it to the list as Xiaomi’s first ever device to feature fingerprint sensors.

Coming attached at the rear, the new fingerprint sensor is claimed to be one of the fastest with an unlock speed of under 0.3 seconds as claimed by the manufacturers.


The newbie will be arriving in the markets in two variants; the 16GB variant with 2GB RAM, and the 32GB one with 3GB RAM. Both will share the same specs everywhere else.

The display is of 5.5-inches that packs a resolution of 1920x1080pixels. Xiaomi is yet to step in to the QHD segment, but they might be reserving it for their flagship Mi 5, which is expected to be announced later.

The fingerprint sensor is accompanied by a 13MP camera in the rear, ands it comes with features like dual-tone flash and phase detection auto-focus. The front cam is of 5MP. Inside, the device packs a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor.


The battery has been beefed up with a capacity of 4000mA, and also offers 50 percent charging in one hour.

On the exteriors, Redmi Note 3 measures 8.65 mm thick and weighs 164g, making it heavier than the previous Redmi Note.

The device has been announced for CNY 899 for the 16GB edition, and CNY 1099 for the 32GB edition. It will be launched in the shades of Gold, Silver, and Dark Grey.
