Podcasting services are having a sudden surge, especially with the likes of Relay FM and other new apps being introduced into the app stores.

This splurge is now forcing the prevailing podcasting providers to have a rethink on what they are putting up in the markets.

And as a result, we now have the Overcast app coming to your devices absolutely free. Marco Arment, developer of Overcast, has now announced that it has launched version 2.0 of its most favored podcasting app, with new improved features for streaming, as well as for iOS 9 exclusive features.

The in-app purchases have now been omitted completely, which now let  all users access the previously paid services like speed option, voice boost, and cellular downloads.

They have still got the monthly patron service running, with which you can contribute towards the development with a contribution as low as $1. As of now, contributors have no exclusive features, but it might open the gate for exclusive features in the near future.

Apart from being totally free of cost, the Overcast app has also got some firm updates in its second edition. An improved streaming feature within the app now ensures that you needn’t download the entire episode to have them played.

There’s also a new chapter support which will let users skip to distinguished sections when listening to a long episode.

Besides, the support for 3D Touch means iPhone 6S and 6S Plus users can make the most out of their tap to access various shortcuts.

The app is now available for free-download in the iTunes store. Prevailing users can instead opt to have a free upgrade to the new version.
