Xiaomi Yi Camera Now Features a Compact Night Vision Edition

June 12, 2015, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

What’s the use of an action cam if it can’t capture your expeditious ride on dark nights? Obviously we all don’t want to fit a head-mount flash, do we?

Anyway, the demand is slowly getting addressed with the addition of night-capturing techniques to action cams. The latest to feature it is from the house of Xiaomi.

The China based manufacturer has re-worked its Yi Camera to bring out one that works fine for night-shots. And it has been christened the Xiaomi Yi Camera Night Vision Edition.

Although having the same design profiles of the one we have seen in the original one, the Night Vision Edition features a closer resemblance to the customary web-cam designs. It’s also a stepped-down version of the original Yi Camera that was shown off at the MWC2015.

The Night Vision abilities in the device are spruced up with the 940nm infrared sensors, which can light up the captured visuals to distances of up to 5 metres.

The all-glass lens used ensures a better viewing angle of 92.7-degree across horizontal, 48.7-degree across vertical and 111.2-degree across diagonal views. It comes with an f/2.0 aperture, and churns out 4x zooming in it.

The device is capable of recording 720p videos at a frame rate of 20fps. Micro-SD cards of up to 32GB can be injected to fill the storage demands.

There’s also support for two-way voice transmission, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, and can also be integrated with iOS and Android devices.

The device is priced at CNY 149 ($25).  Xiaomi has commenced the sale of the newbie in its mainland through its online store.

Apart from China, it’s also been simultaneously made available across other scattered markets.
