Facebook Messenger Update Transforms Location Sharing to Individual Messages Format

Something peculiar will open up before your eyes when you have the Facebook Messenger updated in iOS/Android devices next time.

And that would be the absence of the location turn off button, which you constantly might have got your hands to work upon.

Facebook has announced that the new update, which has started rolling out to devices, will be getting rid of the persistent location sharing feature, or more precisely the blue arrow button.

Instead, the app will now feature a onetime location-sharing button that will have your location pinned out as individual messages in the chat window.

The new location button, which is present along with the three dot button on the side, will instantly pop out your map-location as a distinct message, with the option to drag along the maps to point out other spots in the map. Besides, you could also share the location for other places like restaurants, shops and cinemas.

Facebook says that the service is optional. However, the update will ensure the wipe-out of consistent location sharing feature.

They also ensure that there won’t be any extra app-permission requirement for the new services. It will be same as of before, with the background location gathering kept away when not put into use.

Recently, a Harvard computer science student had come up with a Google Chrome extension , which works to retrieve the location info of your messenger friends even without their knowledge.

However, the extension was later pulled, which was followed by the deactivation of location sharing by Facebook on desktop webpage.

The update will be hitting the iOS and smartphones devices gradually as a server-side update.
