Oculus Shakes Up Things with Announcement of Release Date for Rift VR Headsets

Oculus Rift, which kick-started the virtual reality technology, is finally having its shape and size in full form. After carrying through a prolonged period inside the box, the VR device is finally entering mass scale consumer-reach by next year.

Facebook, the parent company of Oculus Rift, has announced that the aim is to launch Rift VR headsets to stores by the first quarter of 2016.

Although having a lion’s share of time under the beta phase, the news would certainly be a delight as the wait was meant to be even lengthy, had there not been this piece of announcement.

Perhaps, the name Oculus is the one that have stayed in the beta phase for more duration than anything else in the present day world of technology.

Formed back in 2012 under the guidance of Palmer Luckey, a VR enthusiast himself, Oculus spurred the name of VR into the modern day technology, with its innovative gadget-less VR display.

However, things quite were not in the right shape for the company to put it to stores right away.

Oculus started its crowd-funding campaign on Kickstarter, where it got a humungous response with a fundraising of $2.4billion. However, by the time it was on its halfway, the world of VR technology was headed by other big names in the field.

Sony started their work with VR technology, while others stepped up to follow its path. It was at this point of time during which Facebook geared up to parent the Oculus company, in a deal that involved $2 billion.

Oculus may not be the first to reach up to the consumers in the VR field. Their ally with Samsung has brought up Gear VR, which will be having its launch this year and making it the first VR to embrace the mass.

The stand-alone feature of Oculus still could be the USP, as the route ahead doesn’t involve a kindred rival. Sony’s Project Morpheus stands up as the nearby rival when putting in the field of applicability.

But the final built of Oculus Rift does clarify that they are not up for any compromises. Of the entire prototype editions we have seen this far, the upcoming mass sale version looks to be the perfect fit.

As of now, Oculus has kept the rest of its facets concealed. But we would be revealed with more of it as assured by the company.
