Samsung to Go Round with the Next Gear smartwatch

April 28, 2015, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

The date was all set for Apple to grab headline space with the prime sales of its Watch. To a certain extent, it was sure that Samsung may not just be staying idle even as the rival was going great guns. It was just the matter of ‘what next’, and Samsung have come up with the answer.

On the exact day Apple cleared out the first batch of its smartwatch pre-orders, Samsung put out the teaser for what could be the one rivaling the Cupertino product; the next in Samsung Gear smartwatches.

Next-Gen-Gear

So far, around six various iterations of the Gear products have seen light, of which none bothered to have a round embodiment.

But maybe Samsung is being cautious here with their smartwatch department; maybe they just don’t want to reiterate the backlash they have received with their flagship smartphone for being customary with its design approach.

The images of the smartwatch were posted on the official blog, with a caption that read “Get Ready for the Next Gear”. Samsung has not yet named their new member in the family.

The earlier in the series was known as Gear S, which also brought along the standalone feature and the Tizen OS.

And with the upcoming device, it still needs to be seen whether Samsung will have a switch back to the Android OS.

However, as per available stats, neither the Android nor the Tizen variants did wonders for the Korean tech giants. Samsung’s Gear devices have done a decent job indeed, but only under the domain of Android smartwatches.

Since its launch in 2013, Samsung has managed to take the figures past the one million mark for Gear devices, but that’s when all its iterations are taken into account.

All it took for Apple to grab the same figures was just the opening day hits for Apple Watch pre-orders. When all these are mixed, we can certainly expect Samsung to pull out even more surprises in the upcoming teasers.
