Xiaomi Mi 4 Finally Announced for India; Debut Set for Last Week of January

January 20, 2015, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Just a couple of days ago, Xiaomi made its global announcement of the Mi Note launch. And now they have come up with the India-exclusive announcement, which finally fulfills their promise to introduce the Mi 4 smartphone in January in the Indian markets.

The Chinese manufacturer has announced that the flagship phone will be unveiled in the Indian markets on January 28th. The smartphone made its debut in the China market back in August, shortly after the company’s touchdown in the Indian market with the Mi 3 smartphone.

The Indian release of Mi 4 was confirmed a few weeks later by Xiaomi International Vice President, Hugo Barra, when he stated that the device would be launched by January.

Mi 4 has its greater share of tech specs adopted from the former flagship model, Mi 3. With a 5-inch Full HD display, the device runs the same Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 as in the Mi 3, but has its quad-core processor clocked at higher speeds of 2.5 GHz. It also gets an additional 1 GB boost in RAM, making the total RAM availability to 3GB.

The primary cam remains the same, the 13 MP one, while the front-cam has now been upgraded to an 8 megapixel shooter. It also offers a 3080 mAh battery backup with the non removable Li-Ion battery.

The device comes in two variants; one packing 16GB storage and the other with 64 GB. But no word is yet out on the variant that would be made available for the Indian markets.

Xiaomi has changed the design of the Mi 4 to make it curvier on its edges. The rear cam has also been shifted to the centre of the rear panel with the flash placed below the lens, much similar to that of the Redmi 1S model.

Xiaomi hasn’t disclosed the pricing of the device, but it is expected that the tag could be in the range of INR 20000. Online retailer Flipkart will be yet again carrying out the exclusive online sales, which can be expected to be on February 3rd if all go as per schedule.
