Ind vs Aus 4th test 2014

The final match of the Border-Gavaskar trophy will be played between Australia and India at the Sydney Cricket ground, tomorrow. Though the result of the series has already been written off after the Melbourne test, both teams will be looking at the match with a different perspective.

Year 2014 didn’t end on a good note for the visiting team. Tested well in all matches, India gave up the Border-Gavaskar trophy to their rivals too soon.

Despite being unable to pull the fight till the last match, Sydney test match will be having a varied impact on what could be called as a refitted squad.

Virat Kohli, after making his captaincy debut in Adelaide, has now been granted the leadership cap after Dhoni’s retirement from the larger format.

Many believe it to be the opening of a new phase for the Indian squad, and if that holds true, Kohli must prove it out and all in the Sydney test match. A win in the Sydney test match would now mean much more to the squad.

It would also be interesting to see how the new skipper would be deploying the changes. Shikhar Dhawan hasn’t impressed yet in the series apart from his 80-odd runs made in a comeback fashion.

Lokesh Rahul, who was brought in as replacement for Rohit Sharma in Melbourne, has induced concerns with the approach he embraced in both the innings. Suresh Raina is yet to make an appearance.

All these could bring a decent change in the Indian squad, which can be notions of how Kohli might be turning it around with the key in his hands.

Australia would have had a varied angle on the test match had it been on any other venue. It’s been only a couple of months since Sydney Cricket Ground laid the ground for Phil Hughes shocking demise, which would only bring back the Kangaroos to an emotional stance. The same fact might also be keeping the Aussies thirsty for a win like never before.

Praises have come from the Australian squad on how Virat will be handling his leadership skills, but not by any means would they be stepping back from confronting the ‘aggressive’ opponent and the fellow team-mates.

But they would be certainly leading their ‘main-man’ in that matter. Mitchell Johnsonn who has been in the summit for confrontation rows throughout the series has been ruled out for the final test following a hamstring injury.

His absence would probably clear the path for Mitchell Starc, with chances also for Peter Siddle to be the replacement.

It would be the tenth time the duo will be squaring against each other at the Sydney Cricket ground. Australia has nailed the visitors five times, with the recent one being in 2012, while India has managed to be on the winning side only once.

While the test series would be ending on an emotional note, it would also be marked as the series that has brought a shift of leadership in the both the squads.
