The opening encounter between India and Australia at Adelaide on December 9 now holds a higher significance after the unfortunate departure of Phil Hughes.

The entire cricketing world awaits the return of Australian squad to cricketing ways.

Virat Kohli
Michael Clarke, who has been ruled out for the first test as per earlier schedule, has been declared fit and will have on his shoulders the responsibility of leading the squad towards a new beginning.

He has led the team rightly through the past two weeks and would be keen on paying a rightful homage to his late fellow-mate with a thumping win in the series, for which the first test holds the key.

Results from the previous test series would only have a little impact as the squad looks to be on finer touch on home terrain. It’s now only a question of preserving the mental balance within the squad.

The Aussies walking all the way to their opponent’s defence with all the spirit and confidence would be what we might get to see tomorrow.

On the other side, it was an impressive performance from India during their warm-up games and the visitors would hope to build on the same so as to push the squad to take a lead right from the beginning.

The absence of MS Dhoni due to thumb injury would mean Virat Kohli to be the 32nd Indian to lead the squad in the five day format. Wriddiman Saha would be guarding the stumps for the injured Dhoni.

Kohli’s options in pace has been cut down due to the ankle injury picked up by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and so he might deploy the pace trio of Varun Aaron, Ishant Sharma and Mohammad Shami on the Adelaide turf.

The match will be witnessing a 63-second applause by players and supporters as a tribute to Phil Hughes, who has been named as the 13th man in the Australian line-up. Players will also be wearing his test number 408 on their shirts.
