Android users can now enjoy their favorite Disney, Pixar and Marvel flicks through digital lockers offered by Walt Disney. The app, named Disney Movies Anywhere, has been made available on the Play Store following a tie-up of the movie company with Google.

Introduced as an alternate to Ultraviolet, Disney Movies Anywhere offers users to buy and store movies and store them on digital formats to be accessed from anywhere later. The cloud service saw its debut on iOS back in February and now with the service extending to Android, users could enjoy Disney movies beyond platforms.

Taking a step ahead of Ultraviolet, Disney Movie Anywhere now becomes one of the few apps that offer a cross-platform service between iOS and Android. Users could now buy and store from a device which can be accessed from any other device, be it Android, iOS or even your PC.

Jamie Voris, Chief Technology Officer at Walt Disney Studios, says the app offers the apt platform for users to build and enjoy their digital movie collection.

Speaking on the delay in making it to Android devices, Voris referred to the early release of the iOS app as a leap of faith and said he wanted to ensure that the android app would not to fall under the “second-class citizenship” among other apps.

The extension to Android will give a phenomenal boost to Disney’s movie cloud storage as around 70% of the online movies sales are contributed from iOS and Play Store combined.

The service can also be accessed from computers, TVs and mobile devices that are integrated with Google’s Chromecast device.
