Surveillance Jackets Could be the Astounding Novelty among Wearable Gadgets

October 28, 2014, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Ever realized that wearable technology has been doing more than what we all expect? We have a whole lot of smartwatches, fitness bands, smart glasses out there. The list is endless, in fact.

But in the midst of all that, at some point or the other, we are always left surprised when the technology redefines the wearables arena. Yes, we do have something alike to speak of now.

Ever thought of sporting a jacket that aids you in surveillance of the world around you? Not something which we may have thought of, but the minds of South Korean artists Shin Seung Back and Kim Yong Hun thought of something of that sort.

The result is this Aposematic Jacket that’s jam packed with cameras, opening their eyes to the world around the wearer.

It’s not perfectly something that opens up new ways to capture panoramic shots, nor does it intend to give you a hands-free experience in photography. This jacket is purely meant to monitor the world around you. Yes, it’s your personal surveillance camera mechanism round the corners of the streets you cover.

Around 50 cameras find themselves embedded all over the jacket, having connectivity over Wi-Fi networks. Pushing a button is all it takes to send out the surveillance over the internet in case you smell danger.

The Raspberry Pi- controlled system has 360 degree imageries captured from the cameras spread out to be monitored on time or later.

Jehee Sheen, former designer in Giorgio Armani, is the man behind the sewing works for this jacket.

Don’t hurry and walk in to your nearby outlets to grab a piece for yourself. As of now, the surveillance jacket is just an art project from the artists, which also has the backing from Seoul Art Space.
