Google Invite for September 15 Hints at Android One India Launch

Out there in the smartphone market, devices that offer the Android experience at jaw dropping prices are numerous. Earlier this year, it was Google themselves who announced their entry into this terrain. They have now dropped hints of what could be the possible launch of an Android One phone this month.

On the 15th of September, Google India will be making a ‘new exciting announcement’, as per the invites sent out. Enthusiasts believe that they could be the unveiling an Android One device on that date.

It was in the first quarter of this year that the first of the announcement og Google’s Android One initiative was outed by Google. Later in the month of June, they unveiled the partners who would be involved in the initiative, and they included Micromax, Karbonn and Spice Mobiles.


What we need to expect is a low cost Android running smartphone with seemingly mid range specs from one of these manufacturers. The Android version that runs in the Android One device would be a lighter and basic stock Android OS.

Recent speculations have also hinted at the specs of the smartphone, and going by what we saw, the phone will boast a 4.5 inch display, dual SIM slot, external memory slot and the like. As far as the pricing goes, the Android One rig would cost less than $100 (INR 6000).

Though the initiative has been planned on a global basis, Google had earlier enough announced that the initial launch would be in India. With that confirmed, it makes sense to speculate about the event of September 15th. Stay with us.
