Mozilla Firefox OS Gets kick Started in Indian market

A good crowd of smart phone junkies have been waiting for Mozilla to power new cheap  smartphones to be launched in India. Having now raised the curtains for the new smartphone, Mozilla has dragged down the price range of smartphones to an even lower mark.

On Monday, software giant Mozilla launched the Intex Cloud FX, what could be inarguably labeled as the nation’s cheapest smartphone. The collaborative effort from Mozilla and electronic manufacturers Intex Technologies will be featuring the Mozilla Firefox OS.

The Cloud FX has been priced at INR 2490 exclusively on Snapdeal with a staggering 20% discount that curbs down the price to INR 1999, which equals US$ 33.

The cheapest phone however does raise the bar in terms of expectations. Featuring a 3.5 inch LCD display with HVGA resolution of 480×320, the 1GHz Spreadtrum processor will aid the Mozilla OS.

However, the mobile comes with a huge sacrifice on the RAM front. The Cloud FX runs on a mere 128 MB RAM, we wonder how far that would help to handle multitasking on the new OS.

Featuring on the back side is a 2 megapixel camera. The dual-SIM phone also provides Wi-Fi connectivity but lacks connectivity over 3G networks. Support for external storage has been restricted to 4GB by means of micro SD and a 1250 mAH battery serves the power backup for the Cloud FX.

Mozilla believes that the phone would trigger the attention of those still being deprived of the smartphone features with the price barrier playing truant.
